As the Engineering Project Manager for Navier, I lead the development of a forward-facing hydrodynamic sonar system for their boats. I advised all designs, optimizing for 3D printing and marine use while allowing my team creative freedom.
Taken from our Final Deliverable:
On top of organizing tasks for my team of 4 engineers, communicating with Navier on project deadlines, and leading design reviews on all subsystems, I lead the manufacturing of the entire sonar system.
I 3D printed 55+ parts amassing 5+ kg of filament, ensuring designs were optimal for 3D printing. This involved teaching my engineers design for additive manufacturing and also revising their designs to be more structurally rigid for 3D printing.
I also designed a quick slot mounting system for the sonar, honing my DFAM skills as I machined every part of the system.
Our engineers performed ANSYS Fluent simulations on fairing designs for the sonar and the mounting system, achieving a drag coefficient <.05 for all designs. Given these drag coefficients, I was able to hand-calculate the forces acting on parts of the sonar system to ensure that our system was rigid and that our mount was strong enough for its application.
Overall, our client was satisfied with our deliverable!
