As one of my first engineering courses at UC Berkeley, I was excited to learn new design and engineering skills. These projects are applications of what I've learned in this class.
Terry the Tank - Bluetooth Controlled Vehicle Assignment
For the DESINV22 class final, my partner and I were tasked with creating a Bluetooth vehicle capable of traversing a series of obstacles. My classmate and I decided to create a "tank" inspired vehicle with custom treads, capable of driving upside down for the most difficult obstacles.
I 3D printed TPU Treads and wheels for traction, laser cut the vehicle frame and tread guiders. My partner worked on the arduino code to make the vehicle bluetooth compatible.
Our tank design got full marks on the obstacle course and "set the bar pretty high for (our) classmates" -Professor Chris Meyers.

Mechanical Butterfly - Rotary to Linear Motion Assignment
The assignment was to turn the rotary motion of gears into a linear motion. Given this, I wanted to design a mechanical butterfly whose wings flap with the spin of gears. Everything had to be Laser-cut.
I utilized a simple 1-1 gear assembly with posts connected to the wings of the butterfly. To ensure a smooth motion a map the flapping motion, I simulated the parts in SolidWorks before cutting each piece.
Sand Drawing Table - Drawing Machine Assignment
The assignment was to create a mechanical system that continuously marks on a surface. Given this, my partner and I wanted to create a machine that draws patterns in sand.
I utilized a planetary gear system powered by a continuous servo motor. Magnets are attached at specific positions on the gears to create a beautiful pattern in the sand.
